Yu is my family name, I'm used to hearing it in my language, but it has been changed in Canada.
On the third day after I arrived in Toronto, I went to a driver licence examination centre to take G1 test. After a written examination, I waited for my mark with more than thirty people in a room.
When the examinator gave a mark , he called names one by one. In a approximately 20 minutes waiting, I heard a lots of names, such as Jack, Mary, Peter etc, however, I haven't heard my name and kept on waiting. Suddenly the examinator called the name "you", I looked around, nobody stood up. It should be my turn, but my name's pronunciation is very different as you, maybe the name was mine. I walked to him and found that's my examination paper then made sure he called me.
I realized my name has been changed from Yu to You that day, because english native speakers can't pronounce my chinese name.
